“Welcome Words” blends the power of the written word with the Benedictine spirit of hospitality. It reflects our deep love for language and sacred texts while honoring three respected calligraphic guilds who collaborated in the spirit of community and artistry. The event includes a tutorial with Fr. Philip also sharing reflections and stories behind the illuminated manuscripts, concluding with wine and appetizers.

Don’t miss it! November 15, 2025 is the final day of the Calligraphy exhibit on display in the Abbey library.

Join us for a lecture entitled “Poetic Pedagogy: The Self-Shaping Act of Deep Reading,” presented by Dr. Katie Jo LaRiviere, Associate Professor of Literature at Mount Angel Seminary. Discover how reading deeply can help us become the people we are meant to be as Christians in the world. Participants are invited to stay for Noon Prayer with the monks of Mount Angel Abbey, followed by an optional lunch gathering in the Guesthouse.

Feast of the Presentation of the Lord

Forty days after Christmas, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, when Mary and Joseph presented Jesus in the Temple. Join us for this special liturgy that begins in darkness illuminated only by candlelight, symbolizing Jesus as “a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel” (Luke 2:32). Guests are invited to a private reception in the Guesthouse.

Join us for a private reception in Aquinas Hall, a chance to socialize with the artists before they perform. Following the reception, guests will be welcomed into the Abbey church for a concert of the Mount Angel Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr. Myrna Keough, Associate Professor of Music at Mount Angel Seminary.

Join us for Mass in the Abbey church at 8 am, where we will honor the great Benedictine monk, St. Anselm of Canterbury, Bishop and Doctor of the Church. During the liturgy, Fr. Anselm Flores, OSB, will offer a special blessing. Following the Mass, please join us for morning refreshments in the Saint Benedict Guesthouse dining room.

The afternoon includes a guided tour of the Oak Savanna and tree farm, led by Fr. William Hammelman, OSB. As both a monk and steward of the land, Fr. William will share Mount Angel Abbey and Seminary’s rich history. Following the tour, guests are invited to the Benedictine Brewery for a social and handcrafted beer.
