The Prodigal Son: A Story of the Father's Love
Br. Louis de Montfort Nguyen, O.S.B.
November 17 – 19, 2023

The Prodigal Son: A Story of the Father’s Love

A silent retreat with Br. Louis de Montfort Nguyen, O.S.B.
November 17 – 19, 2023

A spiritual and contemplative retreat centered on growing deeper in devotion and love for our Heavenly Father. God’s profound love for each one of his beloved children is revealed through the all of the Bible, but most powerfully in the Gospel, especially the parable of the prodigal son. This humble and fully human story can be considered, in a sense, as the heart of Scripture. It paints with vivid brush strokes a portrait of the God’s heart. In encountering the enduring love of a human father, a child encounters God’s unfailing, enduring and unchanging love. A love that heals our brokenness, redeems our human dignity, and transforms us into the Father’s image and likeness.

Br. Louis de Montfort Nguyen is monk of Mount Angel Abbey since 2011. He serves as the Director of Spiritual Ministries at the Guesthouse and organizes and leads retreats, offer spiritual direction, and other ministries. Among his devotions are the Liturgy, Divine Mercy, and devotions to Mary and St. Joseph.

  • The Gospel of Luke Ch. 15
  • The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming by Henri Nouwen
  • The Cross & the Prodigal: Luke 15 Through the Eyes of Middle Eastern Peasants by Kenneth Bailey

Women’s Advent Retreat
Awaken Your Heart and Embrace the Love of Jesus, Mary, and the Holy Angels

With Dina Marie Hale
December 8 – 10, 2023

This Advent spend some time away from your busy schedule and enjoy this opportunity to walk with Our Lady as we prepare to celebrate the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Conferences will explore the role of the Immaculate Conception, the Holy Angels, and the Blessed Virgin Mary in our lives as women of faith. Come on retreat during the celebration of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and renew your heart and mind to receive the real peace found in joyfully living out our Catholic faith.

Conferences will be given by Dina Marie Hale, founder of Faith Moments. The weekend includes time for silence, personal prayer on the peaceful Abbey grounds, liturgical prayer with the monks, evening social time with other retreatants, and, of course, the delicious and plentiful Abbey meals are part of the retreat benefits. A private room and bath are included. Your retreat fee includes all meals beginning with dinner on the day you arrive and breakfast on Sunday morning.

For availability and registration information, click here or call 503-380-2575.

Oblate Retreats

(Retreats are limited to oblates and those interested in becoming oblates.)

Oblates of Saint Benedict are Christians who have experienced in some way a call to embrace Benedictine spirituality. After a time of prayer and discernment they have desired a more formal, permanent commitment to a monastic community. By making this formal self-giving to Christ in communion with a monastic community, the oblate embraces the time-tested traditions and values of the Benedictine way. Oblates are united to the prayer and good works of the monastery to which they are associated while they continue to live out their Christian vocation in the world.

For more information on becoming on oblate, or if you are in need of financial assistance, please email Ariel Lynch, Associate Director of Oblates.

To register for a retreat, email retreat@mtangel.edu.
