Mount Angel Abbey Launches New Web Site

May 28, 2008

St. Benedict, OR

Wednesday, May 28th marked the commencement of Mount Angel Abbey's new home on the World Wide Web. Funded by the Abbey Foundation of Oregon, and in development throughout the recent winter months, the Abbey's new web presence is intended to be yet another aspect of Benedictine hospitality. The Abbey has many friends who live at quite a great distance from this Pacific Northwest monastery, yet the monks desire to stay closely connected with their oblates, alumni and friends. In addition to those who are already acquainted with the Abbey, the monks want to share the resources of their hilltop community with all who have a desire to know more about Benedictine spirituality or the Catholic Faith.

At one can be introduced to the Abbey's retreat ministry and its seminary programs, or visit the Abbey's notable library which is open to the public. Visitors can request prayers of the monks through the web site or find out when the monks will be praying in the Abbey Church. Historical articles and photographs are available in the "History & Tradition" section of the site. News and events will now be easy to reference, as well as directions, and specials at the Abbey's book and gift shop.

Much more is planned for the future, so it is hoped that visitors will return often and find to be not only a place for information, but also a virtual visit to a place of peace and friendship. Saint Benedict said in his Rule for monks: "All guests are to be received as Christ." The monks of Mount Angel Abbey welcome all in this spirit of Saint Benedict and above all, in the love of Christ, our Lord.
