Oremus: Let Us Pray

Oremus (Latin for let us pray) is the invitation to pray with the monks of Mount Angel Abbey. The program includes: Individual Mass Intentions, Gregorian Mass Intentions, Memorial Masses, the Anniversary Remembrance Progam and a series of Novenas/Octaves.

MASSES

Individual Mass Intentions

The priest-monks of the Abbey offer a Mass each day and you can have your Mass intentions included. You will receive an acknowledgement letter for each Mass request, or you can request that we send no acknowledgement. If you request that a Mass be offered on a particular date , we will make every reasonable effort to meet that request. Please contact the Abbey at least 6 weeks prior for specially dated Masses. A donation of $10 for each offering is requested but not required.

Gregorian Mass Intentions

Gregorian Masses are a series of 30 Masses offered for the departed on 30 consecutive days. The custom of having a Gregorian Mass series said for the deceased individual orginated witht he Benedictine Pope, St. Gregory the Great (590-604 AD).

Memorial Masses

Through this program you can have a Mass dedicated to a deceased friend or relative. We will send you a card that you can fill out and mail or drop off at a friends funeral to let the family know that you have asked the monks to say Masses on behalf of the deceased. A donation of $10 is requested but not required.

Daily Community Mass Enrollment

Enrollees are perpetually included in the intentions of the monk's daily community Mass at the Abbey. The person who requests the enrollment will receive a framed scroll with the name of the enrolled person on it. This is a reminder that your loved ones are included in the daily Masses and prayers of the monks. This is a suitable gift for many special occasions. the suggested offering is $100.00

ANNIVERSARY REMEMBRANCE

A Mass is offered annually on the date of the deceased for those enrolled in this program. We will send you a reminder at the beginning of each month for those loved ones you have enrolled in this program. Any time during the year you can send us the names and dates of the death of your departed loved ones. We will enroll them in the Anniversary Remembrance Program, where they will be remembered by the monks Mount Angel Abbey in a special Mass on the anniversary of their passing. A free-will offering is customary.

PRAYER SERIES

The Abbey monks celebrate five prayer series during the year:

1. All Soul’s Month of Prayer (Nov. 2-30)

2. Christmas Octave of Prayer (December 25-January 1)

3. Saint Joseph Novena (March 11-19)

4. Saint Benedict Novena (July 3-11)

5. Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Novena (August 7-15).

One-month before each series those enrolled for this program receive a remembrance prayer card and an intentions card. You are welcome to send us your special prayer intentions and they will be included in the monks daily prayers.
