Floral Watercolors by Marsha Matschek
Through the month of November, the Mount Angel Abbey Library is pleased to present a showing of floral watercolors by local artist and gardener, Marsha Matschek. Marsha also volunteers in the library as a rare book conservator.
Brother Against Brother
On Sunday, November 4, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., Mount Angel Abbey Library will be hosting Oregon Humanities’ The Conversation Project. Dr. David Sumner, associate professor at Linfield College, will present the talk, Brother Against Brother: Pragmatism, Civility and the Civil War. Dr. Sumner will then facilitate a discussion aftwards.
The Wave and the Mountain
At 2:00 PM on October 22nd, David Fixler will give a presentation at the library on Alvar Aalto's architectural legacy in the United States. A frequent teacher, writer and lecturer on architectural history, preservation and design, David Fixler has been published internationally and has helped to organize numerous conferences on a wide-range of architecture and preservation topics.
Medieval Gregorian Chant Illuminated Manuscripts
The Library is pleased to present an exhibit of pages from medieval illuminated manuscripts of Gregorian chant. The exhibit will be on display from now until July 31, 2011. The manuscript pages are from the thirteenth to the sixteenth centuries and are accompanied by a modern transcription of the words and music.
Library Employee Wins Award
Our Interlibrary Loans Manager, Sandi Ritchey, was presented with the 2011 Oregon Library Association Employee of the Year award at the OLA conference in Salem. Congratulations to Sandi who has worked very hard to share the wealth of the library's collections with other libraries around the world and to help our users gain access to the books and journal articles from other libraries.
The Valley Calligraphy Guild presents "Letters of Reflection ", a display of calligraphic works at the Library through the end of May.

Rare Book Room Display Schedule for 2011
Displays in the Rare Book Room are chosen to emphasize a particular part of the Abbey Library collection.

This display is scheduled to correspond with the Valley Calligraphy Guild display in the Library foyer.

This topic was chosen due to the name "Mount Angel" and because September 29 is the Solemnity of St. Michael and All the Angels and October 2 is the Feast of the Guardian Angels.

Crowned in Song: Musical Settings on Themes of Royalty in the Poetry of Emily Dickinson
On Sunday, March 27th, the Library will host a a benefit recital of vocal settings of the poetry of Emily Dickinson featuring a variety of works by contemporary composers. Donations will benefit the Library.

Trinity Iconography Institute Exhibit
From October 1st to November 8th, the Library will host an exhibit by the Iconography Institute (Trinity Episcopal Cathedral).
On Saturday, October 10th, at 1pm, Chris Armstrong-Stevenson, director of the Iconography Institute, will give a presentation at the Library.
"Celebration of Letters", a collection of works by the Valley Calligraphy Guild, will be on display in the Library the entire month of May.

The Library is pleased to house an exhibit of the work of regional architect Robert Oshatz whose work includes the design of several church buildings. The exhibit will run through the end of April. You can find out more about Mr. Oshatz at his website.
