Monastic Discernment Retreat
January 22-24 , 2010
Mount Angel Abbey Discernment Retreats begin with vespers Friday evening and conclude Sunday afternoon. The retreat time is spent in prayer with the monks, silent reflection, conferences on the monastic way of life, and ample opportunities to discuss vocational discernment with novice and junior monks, and with your fellow retreatants. Abbatial Blessing

Archbishop John G. Vlazny, the Archbishop of Portland in Oregon will visit Mount Angel Abbey on Friday, february 26, 2010 in order to confer the abbatial blessing upon the newly elected Abbot Gregory Duerr, O.S.B. Abbot Gregory's election was immediately confirmed by the Abbot-President of the Swiss-American Benedictine Congregation on the day of election. With the presence of the Archbishop, the Church offers Her blessing and bestows the pontifical regalia of the office of Abbot, namely: the ring, crosier and mitre. The event will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Abbey church.

Retreat for Oblates - Celebrating the Solemnity of Saint Benedict

Come celebrate our Blessed Father, Saint Benedict with a weekend retreat at the Abbey. Two conferences will be given by Father Abbot Nathan. The weekend will conclude with Sunday Mass and a renewal of oblation ceremony followed by the annual Oblate Picnic.

Specify whether you will be with us for the retreat, or just the picnic. The cost of the weekend: room, meals, conferences and socials is $155.00 for singles or $252 for doubles.

Annual Oblate Picnic

All oblates and their families are invited to the annual Oblate Picnic. Holy Mass will be celebrated at the special time of 10:00 a.m., where all will have the opportunity to renew their oblation. Following the liturgy the monks will host the traditional german sausage picnic on the mall.
